The Expert group on Art Markets and Cultural Goods Integrity, established in 2023, is committed to advancing a holistic understanding of the art markets as dynamic ecosystems at the intersection of culture, economy, heritage, and society.
The chairs leading the working group are Anne-Sophie V. Radermecker and Nancy Von Breska.
Anne-Sophie V. Radermecker holds a Ph.D. in Art history/Cultural Economics from the Université Libre de Bruxelles. She is a former B.A.E.F. fellow at Duke University (NC) and lecturer at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Since 2021, she is a FNRS research associate in Cultural Management at the Université libre de Bruxelles. Her main research interests are the economics of art and culture, the market for marginal heritage, the reciprocal interactions between museums and the art market, and quantitative methods applied to art history.
Dr. Nancy von Breska Ficović is a Brussels based art historian and cultural heritage expert working on the interface between science, culture and business. She has collaborated with international private and public cultural institutions, art galleries and auction houses, research institutes and insurance companies. As lead art historian, she has worked on multiple interdisciplinary European restoration-conservation projects (e.g. determining originals from forgeries or copies). As part of Lapislazul international research team of art market specialists and restorers, she consults on authenticity, provenance and restoration. As an expert to the European Commission her focus is on art, cultural heritage and digital (AI) ethics.

This Expert Group promotes interdisciplinary collaboration between researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to address issues ranging from artist status and market structure to the prevention of illicit trafficking and the integrity of cultural goods. Through events, policy inputs, and educational outreach, this Expert Group advocates for an art market ecosystem that is ethical, inclusive, and sustainable. Main areas of interest include art market actors, economic dimensions of art markets, heritage and ethical issues, and cross-cutting concerns like innovation, sustainability, and policy. The group plans three major public events per year, research coordination meetings, targeted educational activities, and information dissemination. Annual milestones include participation in art fairs, such as BRAFA and TEFAF.
