Giuliana Ciancio
Giuliana Ciancio was selected as a finalist of the 2023 ENCATC Research Award for her PhD thesis, "Transnational Networks between European Governance and Local Chance in the Cultural and Creative Sector, if not for harmonizing Policy, then what?", defended at the DIST the Interfaculty Department of the University and Polytechnic of Turin.
Giuliana Ciancio is a researcher, cultural manager, curator and lecturer with more than 20 years of experience in the cultural and performing arts sectors. She holds a PhD in Management and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Antwerp’s Culture Commons Quest Office (CCQO). Her work explores cultural policy, cultural activism, international cultural cooperation and the role of political emotions in cultural participation and policymaking.
As a practitioner, Ciancio has developed and curated international cultural projects bringing together festivals, universities, municipalities, artists, cultural professionals and activists. She co-founded the Italian social enterprise Liv.in.g. (Live Internationalization Gateway) and contributes to international cultural networks, including as a board member of On the Move. She also teaches in postgraduate programmes and regularly publishes and speaks on cultural policy, participation, cultural activism and cultural justice.
