Rute Carmo Mendes
Rute Carmo Mendes from the Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE) in Portugal, for doctoral thesis, “The Communication of Cultural Policies in Portugal: Ideology, Mediatisation and Leadership in a Networked Society”.
Mendes is a Portuguese cultural policy professional and researcher whose experience combines public administration, cultural management and academic research. She has worked in cultural policy at the municipal level, including as an adviser to the Councillor for Culture of the Lisbon City Council, where she contributed to discussions and initiatives concerning cultural policy and cultural rights.
Her doctoral research examines how cultural policies are communicated, mediated and shaped by political leadership in Portugal, bringing together perspectives from cultural policy, communication and governance. At ISCTE, her research is situated within the field of Communication Sciences and is supervised by researchers including Gustavo Cardoso and Caterina Foà.
