The Value of Art: A Comparative Analysis on Artists Careers
Bruxelles, BelgiumNathalie Moureau, Professor of Economic Sciences (University of Montpellier Paul Valéry)
In the early 2000s, the Quemin report highlighted the difficulties French artists faced in breaking through on the international scene and their underrepresentation abroad. Even when talent is equal, artists can have completely different trajectories, as these are contingent on the artistic, economic, and social fabric in which they operate. Based on work carried out in collaboration with Wondeur AI, and on a study of all the exhibitions produced by French, German, British, and American artists during their careers, this art talk proposed a reflection on the geography of exhibitions by artists from different scenes and the consequences this may have for their careers.
