The Status and Working Conditions of Artists and Cultural & Creative Professionals in Asia

Laura Kee is a Singapore-based actor and arts researcher whose work examines labour conditions in Singapore and Asia’s screen and performing arts industries. She chairs a peer-led advocacy organisation for freelance actors in Singapore, working to establish fairer contracting practices and professional standards. She holds an MA in Arts & Cultural Leadership (Distinction) from Goldsmiths, University of London, delivered by LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore. Her research focuses on how soft regulation and institutional structures shape precarity for freelance media workers. Laura also holds a branch leadership role within Singapore’s national trade union congress, representing performing artists. She works across film, television, theatre, and immersive performances as a practitioner-researcher.
