Dr. Kathrin Schmidt

Consultant, researcher and writer, and a member of the UNESCO Culture|2030 Indicators Expert Facility

Dr Kathrin Schmidt is a Nairobi-based cultural and creative sectors consultant, researcher and writer, and a member of the UNESCO Culture|2030 Indicators Expert Facility. With nearly two decades of experience, she specialises in cultural policy, international cultural cooperation, and culture and sustainable development, with a strong focus on Africa and Africa–Europe collaboration.

She has worked extensively with organisations such as UNESCO, the European Union, the British Council, the Goethe-Institut, the World Cities Culture Forum and the Wellcome Trust. Her work spans strategy, sector analysis, programme design, monitoring and evaluation, as well as mapping and impact studies, with a particular interest in how cultural ecosystems catalyse social, economic and policy change across local and global contexts.

She is also a regular conference speaker and guest lecturer across Europe and Africa.
