The meeting provided an opportunity to review current policy developments, research opportunities, and the Think Tank’s recent achievements. Mariachiara Esposito outlined the European Commission’s work to support the cultural and creative sectors in the green transition and in responding to the energy crisis, linking the priorities of the new EU Work Plan for Culture with emerging initiatives such as the Voices of Culture and OMC groups on greening CCSIs. She also highlighted Horizon Europe actions that will finance projects applying New European Bauhaus principles in cultural heritage and creative industries. Participants then heard from Elena Borin, who introduced the European Journal on Cultural Management and Policy as a venue for disseminating research generated within the Think Tank and contributing to wider cultural policy debates.

GiannaLia Cogliandro Beyens presented an overview of the Think Tank’s activities in 2022 and 2023, including four meetings, fifteen research presentations, and four issues of the ENCATC Policy Tracker. She confirmed that the group’s work has followed the priorities agreed in June 2022, such as using biannual meetings to share studies and indicators, exchanging information regularly for ENCATC’s updates, and avoiding new surveys in favour of drawing on existing data. Looking ahead to 2024, the Think Tank will develop a comparative matrix for existing surveys, map remaining data gaps using sources such as UNESCO and European Commission reports, and establish small, theme-based intersectoral working groups to collaborate on shared documents.
