José Román is research professor in History at the Autonomous University of Zacatecas, Mexico, in the area of Historical and Cultural Heritage.
He served, between August 2017 and December 2021, as Director of the Regional Institute of World Heritage in Zacatecas, Category 2 Institute, under the auspices of UNESCO, to contribute to the better implementation of the 1972 Convention concerning the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage in the sub-regional of Central America, the Caribbean and Mexico.
He founded a B.A. in Psychology and PhD in Colonial Studies at the Autonomous University of Zacatecas and the State School of Conservation and Restauration “Refugio Reyes”. José Román formed part of the team that participated in the elaboration of the technical dossier on the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2010. He holds a degree in Law and a Master’s degree in Social Sciences from the Autonomous University of Zacatecas. He also holds a PhD in American History from the University of Sevilla, Spain.
