Art by Commission in Flanders: Policy, Practice, and Professionalisation

Katrien Laenen studied art history at the Catholic University of Leuven. She has worked for the Flemish Government since 1992, where she has been involved in the implementation of the decree on the integration of art in public buildings since 1997. From 1999 to 2015, Katrien served as artistic coordinator on the team of the Flemish Chief Architect. In this role, she produced various publications on commissioned art. She has published a number of articles on art in public spaces in both professional journals and the general press. Since 2016, she has served as coordinator of the Kunst in Opdracht platform at the Department of Culture, Youth, and Media.
