Ernest van Buynder (1945) was chairman of the Willemsfonds. In this capacity, he was also chairman of the Consultation Centre of Flemish Associations for a while. He was also chairman of the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp (MHKA) and of the Flemish Commission for Visual Arts. Until 1999, he was Vice-Chairman of the University Institute of Antwerp. He remained so until his retirement in 2010. Since 2014, he has worked as an external advisor at the cabinet of former Flemish Minister of Culture Sven Gatz.
