2021 ENCATC Research Award
OnlineThe 8th ENCATC Research Award Ceremony took place online during the 2021 ENCATC Congress. Despite the COVID-19 context, the ceremony brought together a global audience of academics, researchers, cultural professionals, policymakers and artists.
Four finalists presented their doctoral research: Jon Alvarez Fernandez (Japan), Dimitra Kizlari (United Kingdom), Meike Lettau (Germany) and Solène Marié (France). Their research explored heritage protection, foreign cultural policy, civil society engagement and cross-border cultural networks.
The 2021 Award was won by Dr Solène Marié (France) for her doctoral thesis, At the centre of the edge: the development of cross-border cultural networks in border cities between Brazil and Uruguay and France and Germany, defended at the University of Brasília, Brazil, and Paris 8 University, France.
The winner was announced by Annick Schramme, Professor at the University of Antwerp and member of the Award’s jury. The jury particularly valued the thesis’s originality, comparative perspective and non-Eurocentric approach.
The ceremony reinforced the Award’s role in raising the international visibility of emerging researchers and supporting their careers, while connecting research with policy and practice and fostering international knowledge exchange in cultural management and cultural policy in Europe and beyond.
