The current ENCATC Board for 2025-2027 was elected at the 2025 General Assembly which took place on 11 December 2025.

PRESIDENT

Elena Borin, Pegaso Digital University, Naples (Italy)

Elena Borin holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Ferrara (Italy) and the Doctor Europaeus title. She is Full Professor of Business Administration and Deputy Dean for International Affairs at Pegaso Digital University, where she also directs the Excellence Lab SICCEc -  Sustainable Innovation in Cultural and Creative Industries, Sectors and Ecosystems and co-directs the Observatory on Sustainability Accounting and Reporting Practices in Cultural and Creative Ecosystems. Her work focuses on shaping innovative and sustainable models for cultural and creative ecosystems, bridging cultural value, managerial innovation and societal transformation. Previously, she led for several years the MSc in Arts and Cultural Management and coordinated the Research Team in Arts and Cultural Management at Burgundy School of Business (France). With over 15 years of international teaching and research experience across Europe, Asia and Latin America, and publications in top-ranked scientific journals, she brings a global, forward-looking perspective to cultural management education, research and policy dialogue.

Leticia Labaronne, ZHAW School of Management and Law Center for Arts Management (Switzerland)

Following an international career in the performing arts, Leticia Labaronne joined the ZHAW Zürich University of Applied Sciences in 2009. Originally from Argentina, she holds a BA in International Studies (UK), an MSc in Public and Nonprofit Management (Switzerland), and a PhD in Cultural Management (Germany). Since 2016, she has served as Academic Director of the Executive Master of Arts Management at ZHAW. In 2019, she became Head of the Center for Arts Management, which employs six full‑time researchers and collaborates with more than fifty scholars and practitioners in executive education, research and consulting projects. In 2022, she was promoted to tenured Full Professor of Arts Management. Her expertise spans a broad range of topics related to the management of arts and cultural organizations, including financing and funding, performance measurement, sustainability, cultural promotion, and cultural policy. She serves on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Cultural Management and Cultural Policy and the International Journal of Arts Management, Law and Society, and has been a member of the ENCATC Advisory Board since 2021. She currently co‑leads the major research project Culture Goes Sustainable” and co‑founded the global alliance “Culture for the Planet.”

Ana Zuvela, IRMO - Institute for Development and International Relations (Croatia)

Dr Ana Žuvela is a Research Associate at the Department of Culture and Communications, Institute for Development and International Relations (IRMO), Zagreb. Her work focuses on socially and environmentally responsible cultural policies, democratisation of cultural policy, power devolution within cultural systems, and progressive models of cultural governance. She links academic research with applied policy analysis in the fields of cultural policy, planning, and governance, with particular attention to broader social and political transformations. Dr Žuvela has participated in numerous research projects and policy collaborations with supranational organisations, including the European Parliament, the United Nations, and UNESCO, as well as national and local institutions such as the Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media and the Kultura nova Foundation. She serves as Vice-President of the ENCATC Board and is a member of the Advisory Board of the European Journal of Cultural Management and Policy and the Governing Board of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra.

Douglas DeNatale, Boston University (USA)

Douglas DeNatale is an Associate Professor of the Practice and Director of the Graduate Program in Arts Administration at Boston University.  He previously served as Director of Research for the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA), where he played an instrumental role in developing the earliest work on the Creative Economy in the U.S. DeNatale has directed research projects for the Ford Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Boston Foundation, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and the Library of Congress. He holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, an MA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a BA from Wesleyan University. DeNatale serves as a member of the board of directors and Treasurer for ENCATC, the European Network for Cultural Management and Policy.

Toni-Matti Karjalainen, Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki (Finland) 

Toni-Matti works as Professor of Arts Management and Head of Doctoral Programme and Research unit in Sibelius Academy at the University of the Arts Helsinki. He is also a member of the Sibelius Academy Board. He holds the title of Docent in Music Management and Culture Export at Aalto University in Finland. He has been a visiting professor, speaker, lecturer, supervisor and researcher in various countries. He holds a Doctor of Arts degree in Art and Design, M.Sc. in Economics, and he has produced over 100 academic publications ranging from design, branding and product development to popular music and arts management – managing numerous research projects in a wide variety of areas, from consumer products to design and technology, and further to cultural products. He has also participated as a member in various advisory and executive boards, ranging from research projects to organisations and international networks.

Matina Magkou, Université Côte d'Azur (France)

Matina Magkou is a researcher, lecturer, and consultant specialising in cultural and creative industries, cultural policy, and international cultural cooperation. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Université Côte d’Azur at the GREDEG research laboratory, while previously she held a research post at SicLab at the same university. She holds a PhD from the University of Deusto on the evaluation of cultural cooperation projects and has taught at several universities in Europe and beyond. Her academic career includes visiting research positions at the Brussels School of Governance (VUB, 2023–2024) and as a Fulbright Schuman Scholar at New York University and Carnegie Mellon' University Heinz College (2024). Matina has extensive professional experience in festivals, theatre productions, and major international events, as well as within public institutions such as the European Parliament, the Greek Ministry of Education and the Athens Development and Destination Management Agency. As a consultant, she has collaborated with European and international cultural networks and organisations on research, evaluation, and project development. She is co-founder of KOΛΕΚΤΙVA for culture and social innovation, one of the two experts on Greece for the Compendium on Cultural Policies and Trends and member of the European Expert Network for Culture.

Gerald Lidstone, Goldsmiths, University of London (United Kingdom)

Gerald is a Research and Knowledge Exchange Fellow for the Institute for Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship (ICCE) at Goldsmiths University of London. He was a founder and director of ICCE until 2024, He was the founder of the MA in Arts Administration and Cultural Policy, now established for more than 30 years. Gerald created and ran a MA in cultural industries in Abu Dhabi for three years and worked for over twelve years on behalf of The Ministry of Culture and Information in Viet Nam establishing Arts Management education in Hanoi University of Culture, funded by the Ford Foundation, he was awarded the national medal for culture in Viet Nam. In the last five years he led on a partnership of Creative Spark in Uzbekistan. For the British Council and other agencies, he has taught Arts Management courses in over 20 countries.  Gerald holds 3 honorary doctorates and was ENCATC President from 2020-25.
